Who does not want to invite traffic to his website but sometimes the outcome of huge visits to a website leads to crashing down of the site which later creates an issue for the website owner. So, before you are opening your site for the visitors, it is a must for you to be ready for anything and make your website crash proof. For that you will have to make a few changes in the web hosting/server, file sizes and the caching system and others to ensure that however heavy hits of traffic it faces, your site do not crashes down.

Before you do anything, it is necessary for you to know as to what barriers are there that leads to a failure in handling the high volume of hits. These are physical barriers identified as Processor Limitations and Network Limitations.

MySQL

WordPress depends on MySQL to a great extent for storing data. Every time a request is made by WordPress to MySQL for reading or writing data, a load is created on the server and this load further creates a problem in slowing down or blocking the server. So, you will have to improve this situation by either adjusting settings for MySQL or by providing more storage to the server. MySQL optimization is necessary at this point for which the MySQL Tuner script is a good thing.

Web Service

The web services you enjoy from the server should be up-to-date and stable. As the servers generally runs on Apache and Linux and also supports PHP and MySQL sometimes, you will have to see that all these platforms you are using are strong enough to take the pressure.

The selection of the mode, whether it is the CGI mode or the shared module mode, the testing should be done by the website holder on his own. If the stable platform is to be named then the prefork performance of Apache 2 with mod_php is an option.

But other than these Processor Limitations, there are Network Limitations as well which too will have to be carefully examined by the designer. These are like seeing the use of the Ethernet adapter, checking the network transfer speeds and so on.
